Want Better Health? Get Back to the Basics

Better health doesn’t have to complicated. Improving your health doesn’t have to mean expensive health club memberships, complex fitness trackers, or extreme diets.

Better all-around health can be had by getting back to the basics.

Simple ways to be happier and healthierYou can do this! Here are some considerations for you:

Sleep well – The average adult requires 7 – 8 hours of sleep a night. If you are having difficulties sleeping it is important identify and address the core issues that may be causing the problem, such as: pain, emotional stress, hormonal issues or sleep disorders.

Exercise – It’s recommended that adults from 18-64 years old should accumulate at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity per week, in sessions of 10 minutes or more. Click here for simple tips to add more activity to you day.

Practice gratitude – Feeling overwhelmed or in a foul mood? Take 30 seconds and list 5 things you’re grateful for. It will help put your feelings in perspective and you in a better frame of mind.

Eat well – Keep it simple. Eat whole, natural, unprocessed food. If you don’t recognize or can’t pronounce what’s on the ingredient list, don’t even buy it. Eat slowly and enjoy your healthy food choices. Eat when you’re hungry and stop eating when you’re satisfied.

Drink lots of water – Hydration is important for every aspect of your physical and mental health. It doesn’t have to be expensive bottled water either! Use BPA-free refillable containers will filtered tap water and sip all day long.

Listen to your body – Are you stiff, thirsty, tired or hungry? Be mindful of your body and address what it truly needs.

Take action to remove stress – Emotional stress can take a serious toll on your physical and mental health. Practice gratitude, talk to someone about your problems, schedule time for yourself and be proactive addressing the causes of your stress.

Be positive, patient and understanding – We’ve all heard, ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’. This is often easier said than done! Reflect on the following:
